Analogy- Comparison of 2 pairs of something that have the same relation. The first part of the pairs have to be the same, and the second part of the pairs also have to be the same. "Hot to cold, like fire to ice"
Repetition- Continuous use of a word "I like cake, cake, cake. Cake is good. The cake isn't a lie.
Personification- Giving a human trait to an object that has none "The ball is happily jumping away"
Allusion- A reference to a connection in the real world "He's as rich as Bill Gates"
Euphemism- A mild expression in the place of a more rough way "He needs to go the the little boys room/He needs to pee"
Imagery- Something that appeals to the 5 senses "The golden white pie smelled like cinnamon swirls with icing"
Irony- A differences of what one said by some words, than what one really meant " *Someone gives Bob a present* 'Oh thank you, you really didn't need to', said Bob greedily looking at the present"
Malapropism- Unintentional misuse of a word that seems the same as what they meant "A gunshot fired 'WHAM'
Onomatopoeia- A word that imitates the sound of what's it was imitating "BLAM!"
Oxymoron- Conflict of words "A pretty troll"
Satire- Makes fun of something that they want point out to "The satire of Shakespeare was that he was poking fun of men and women"
Simile- Comparison with the use of words like "like" or "as" "He's as fat as a hippo"
Symbol- Something that has more meaning than what the author appears to give it, or something that has a strong importance "The symbol for 'The Portable Phonograph was the phonograph"
Theme- Main idea of what the author wants to express "The main idea of 'Green Eggs and Ham' was to get this guy to eat green eggs and ham"
